Ingredients

  • 2 cups Bisquick flour (break up lumps with a fork)
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (walnuts traditional)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup oil
  • 4 eggs (beaten lightly before adding to the mixture)
  • 1 teaspoon cloves
  • 1 teaspoon orange flavoring (liquid)
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1½ teaspoons baking soda

For the syrup:

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon orange flavoring

Method

Mix all ingredients by hand with a spoon. Pour into a greased pan.

Reconstructed: Bake at 350°F for 35–45 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

When done, pour the syrup over the cake.

For the syrup: Combine the water, sugar, and orange flavoring in a saucepan. Bring to a boil and simmer for 5 minutes.

Pour the hot syrup over the hot cake and let it soak in.
