Ingredients

  • 6 to 7 cups flour
  • ½ lb butter
  • 1 cup oil (Mazola)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • Rind of orange (optional)
  • Ground nuts and cinnamon (for optional filling)
  • Honey and hot water (for syrup)
  • Chopped nuts (for finishing)

Method

Beat the butter until white. Add the oil slowly, then add the orange juice. Add all the dry ingredients with a little flour. Then add the rest of the flour (the 6 cups). If you need a little extra flour, add it. Dough should be soft but not sticky.

Optional: Place half a date mixed with ground nuts and cinnamon in the center of each cookie.

Shape the cookies and bake in a 350°F oven until golden in color.

For the syrup: Mix honey with hot water.

After baking, dip each cookie in the honey syrup, then roll in chopped nuts.
